Cancer training

Over the past year special training has been held at Kanti Children’s Hospital and other sites around Nepal, together with the organisation called Together Against Childhood Cancer, with which we work closely. It is very important to raise awareness of cancer amongst children and families and ensure that treatment is given quickly. Also vital is being able to provide play and study material for the children to enable them to keep up their spirits and their education while undergoing treatment in the hospitals.

Training was given to medical staff on how to look out for early symptoms and how to treat the different types of cancer that might be found. Just as important is the need for psychological and social support for patients, their families and medical staff. In too many cases families can decide to give up and go home, which might be several days walk away from the hospital, and treatment stops.
