Our annual sponsored walk is coming up in June! This year, we are raising money to continue our support for a Thalassaemia nurse at Kanti Children’s Hospital, who we have funded for the last year.
Thalassaemia is an inherited blood disorder which affects haemoglobin in the blood with affected children requiring regular blood transfusions.
The objectives of the Thalassaemia project include:
- To help ensure safe and timely blood transfusions to affected children under 14, to ensure regular follow-up and monitoring of transfusion dependent children and enable the provision of iron chelation and other medicines by the hospital.
- To relieve economic and social hardship on low income families requiring lifelong blood support for their children.
- Improved health and energy levels among children, enabling regular school attendance to many.
- Reduced financial and social pressure on families, many of whom are from marginalized communities.
- Strengthened hospital support system for managing Thalassaemia cases.
- Increased awareness among caregivers regarding regular transfusion schedules.
Please do come along to the walk if you can. Whether you can or not, please raise funds using the QR code, or the link below:
