Sponsored walk – 9 July 2023

ARE YOU READY FOR OUR NEXT SPONSORED WALK?

Sunday 9th July 2023.  Skipton, Yorkshire

Approx 6.5 miles long

Skipton is an ancient town, standing on the Leeds-Liverpool canal opened in 1816, with one of the best-preserved ancient castles in the country. During the Civil War over 900 years ago opponents ofWilliam Iholed up in the castle, until they were forced to surrender after a 3-year siege.

The town became an important centre for the area. In 1204 there was a weekly market selling sheep and woollen goods, andthe market continues to this day, now selling a wider range of goods.Nearby are the beautiful Skipton Woods which are about 1,000 years old and provided wood and stones for the development of the Industrial Revolution in the area.

There will be a coach leaving central Liverpool at 9am from outside the Casino, Whitechapel, near the entrance to the Mersey Tunnel.

If anyone would like to go and not take part in the walk, they would be welcome to join us as long as there are enough seats available.

People will be able to walk at their own speed and there are lots of cafes and shops in town if you want to visit any of them on your return.
