Many staff from Kanti have been sponsored to receive education and training in their specialties. Many have spent time with colleagues in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and others have trained more locally in India.
You can find out more about their fellowships below.
Dr Rajkarnikar is one of the paediatric surgeons in Kanti Hospital. She spent 6 weeks in Alder Hey on a burns fellowship funded by BAPRAS (the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons) and STCML.
Here she speaks about her experience.
My name is Dr Chapagain. I visited Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 2018 to learn about the child protection recognition and response system of hospital and related other government system. My trip was sponsored by STCML and HeXN.
I spent three weeks with mentorship of Dr Jamuna Acharya and Dr Deepak Upadhaya. I observed about the child protection handling system in hospital, community and other government organizations and learned about how we can develop such process in Nepal. I perceived we have to work on raising voices for few time as well, as we have to strengthen the NGOs activities regarding the child protection.
After my visit and learning in UK Liverpool, the Nepal Paediatric Society, with help of STCML and HeXN, implemented a three year project to educate the Doctors, Nurses and other stakeholders involved in child health to pick up the child protection related cases in health care, set up and orientate about the legal and administrative provision that exists in Nepal.
